 President's Message

SCVSS President - 2014-2015

Dear SCVSS Members and Colleagues,

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as President of the Southern California Vascular Surgical Society this year.

I would like to take a moment to remind you all of our upcoming meeting at Rancho Bernardo.  Thanks to the hard work of all the members, Dr. Chiriano and the Program Committee have arranged from the large number of submissions an outstanding scientific meeting.  This proves to be an interesting, thought-provoking, and, most importantly, educational meeting featuring a mixture of original scientific articles, retrospective reviews, and amusing anecdotes (case reports).

Rancho Bernardo offers a wonderful environment for relaxation and has golfing amenities on-site.  This will be a nostalgic return as president to the site of my first experience with this fine society. Visit the 2015 Annual Meeting page for additional information and to register.

We are pleased to have two invited guest speakers.  Dr. Elna Masuda, who will dare to travel to Southern California from the Straub Clinic in Honolulu, will be providing an update on the conundrum of calf vein thrombosis and the role of new anticoagulants from Dr. Elna Masuda.  Also, we are pleased to have Dr. David Armstrong from the University of Arizona presenting on the importance of the multi-specialty approach to the patient with diabetes.

Please remember that the vitality of our Society is strongly dependent upon new members. Please consider those vascular surgeons who would make excellent members to our Society and encourage them to join.  Dr. Kevin Patel, Membership Chair, is busy working on recruiting efforts this winter. Please contact him directly if you would like to sponsor a colleague for membership in our Society, or Membership applications can be downloaded from our SCVSS website Membership/Join SCVSS page.

On the Friday of the meeting I would encourage all interested  members to attend the semi-annual Southern California Vascular Outcomes Improvement  Collaborative (SoCalVOICe) meeting.  This will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Even if you are not up and running yet with VQI or just interested in the process, we encourage you to attend.

I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting.
