Recycled Meeting Materials Are Donated to Needy School

SVS donates surplus materials from the Vascular Annual Meeting to schools in needy areas of the country. For the past 3 years, the bags, pencils, and other meeting promotional items have been much appreciated by schools struggling to provide students with materials.

SVS member, Dr. Michael Trotter, spearheads the program. He secures surplus meeting items from medical groups and distributes them to deserving schools. This year, the Vascular Annual Meeting materials were donated to an elementary school in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. The teachers learned of the program and contacted Dr. Trotter requesting supplies, specifically bags and blue/black pens.

"This school was one of the hardest hit by the storms of the past few summers," said Dr. Trotter. "The recession has impacted them, as it has all of us, if not worse because of the structure of their economy. As such, they drove 4 1/2 hours to pick up 275 bags and 150 pens. They said it was like Christmas in July and just in the nick of time for back-to-school."
