At this year’s annual meeting, he designed the E. Stanley Crawford Critical Issues Forum around maintenance of certification (MOC). One of the goals of the forum was to determine if “there was anything more that we could do as a Society to help our members conform to the new requirements,” he stated.

Dr. Sidaway obtained his vascular surgery fellowship at Boston University Hospital and also obtained an MPH degree in health care administration from George Washington University. He has authored many peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and two textbooks: “Basic Science of Vascular Disease” and “Diabetic Foot, Lower Extremity Arterial Disease, and Limb Salvage.”

He was the guest editor of three issues of the Seminars in Vascular Surgery: A primer on basic research in vascular disease, arteriovenous hemodialysis access and its complications, and diabetic foot. Dr. Sidawy serves on the Editorial Board of three journals and is coeditor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery. He is Governor of the American College of Surgeons and serves on the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery. Previous positions include Secretary of the SVS, Chair of the Distinguished Fellows Council of the SVS, and President of the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Sidawy has been a member of the Vascular Disease Foundation board of directors since June 2003 and became its president in 2009. He has served for many years on the Health Policy Committee of the SVS.

Among his many awards and honors are the Award of Merit from Howard University in 2000 and the 2006 LaSalle D.
