2009 Membership Recruitment Goal Set at 15%

Members are asked to recruit vascular surgeons, fellows, nurses, and physician assistants. Application deadline is March 1, 2009.

Last year's 10 percent membership increase was a record for SVS making the membership total 2,721. The goal for 2009 is increased to 15 percent. SVS President, G. Patrick Clagett, M.D., is challenging members to help in reaching this goal.

"The new SVS is active and energized. We are reaching out to all segments of vascular health practitioners to strengthen our unified voice as a prominent national society when our specialty interfaces with governmental agencies such as CMS, FDA and other specialty organizations. With all segments represented, the SVS will be able to achieve its branding and practice issues goals," said Clagett.

Recruitment materials have been sent to over 1,500 vascular surgeons who are not SVS members but belong to regional societies, the American Venous Forum and the Society for Vascular Medicine.

Vascular nurses and physician assistants have received invitations to become Affiliate members. Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery members have been asked to recruit vascular fellows as Candidate members ensuring all vascular fellows are members.

As a recruitment tactic, SVS is providing a special section for physician assistants. A breakfast will be presented during the 2009 Vascular Annual Meeting to introduce them to SVS.

"Physician assistants are key members of our surgical teams and are essential in the at-large vascular surgery community. SVS understands this and wants to help foster the communication between physician assistants and vascular surgeons by creating a section for them to gain access to valuable vascular surgery resources, as well as promote a network of similarly interested physician assistants.

"Please encourage your physician assistants to attend 2009 Vascular Annual Meeting and become a member," said Clagett.

For the 2009 campaign, members are asked to recruit their nurses, fellows, and physician assistants with whom they work. In addition, a high priority is to recruit vascular surgeons who are not currently members.

"We need to ensure all professionals in the vascular surgery community are represented within SVS. Their involvement in the Society can only help our patients as we strive to provide the best possible care. I thank you in advance for your help in this important effort," said Clagett.
