The SVS 2009 Research Initiatives in Vascular Disease Conference, to be held April 28, 2009, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. (a day before the 2009 Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Annual Conference), is specifically designed to encourage interaction between vascular surgeon investigators and scientists from other vascular biology-related disciplines. A particular objective is to stimulate interest in research among trainees who are aspiring academic vascular surgeons.
The SVS Research Council and the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (ATVB) Council of the American Heart Association are coordinating their basic science meetings for the first time in 2009. The spring ATVB conference has become one of the premier vascular biology research meetings, and this new combined conference is an excellent opportunity for scientific interaction with influential investigators working on vascular disease problems. Research by SVS members will have great exposure and visibility. Because of the tremendous quality of this meeting, the SVS Research Council has decided to make this annual event the primary venue for presentation of experimental vascular research by SVS members and associates. It is to be held April 29, 2009, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, the day after the SVS 2009 Research Initiatives conference
