SVS/ACS Health Policy. Deadline: February 2, 2009. The Society for Vascular Surgery and the American College of Surgeons are offering an annual scholarship to subsidize attendance and participation in the Executive Leadership Program in Health Policy and Management at Brandeis University. The course takes place June 14-19, 2009. The award is in the amount of $8,000, to be used toward the cost of tuition, travel, housing, and subsistence during the period of the course.
E.J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship. Deadline: February 16, 2009. The E.J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship provides the recipient the opportunity to visit a number of excellent vascular surgery centers in the United States and abroad. Though brief, these visits stimulate academic inspiration, promote international exchange, and foster fraternal fellowship in vascular surgery. The E.J. Wylie Memorial Traveling Fellowship of the Lifeline Programs of the American Vascular Association will pay up to $12,000 for expenses of travel, research, and clerical help. This award is not intended to support specific research interests but to assist the fellow in a unique opportunity for travel and professional exchange within established vascular centers.
SVS Lifetime Achievement Award. Deadline: March 1, 2009. The Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor that the SVS bestows on one of its members. Selection for this honor recognizes an individual's outstanding and sustained contributions both to the profession and to the Society, as well as exemplary professional practice and leadership. Candidates for the award should be individuals who have exhibited outstanding leadership in the specialty and who possess exceptional personal integrity and highest standards.
SVS Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery Award. Deadline: March 1, 2009. Candidates for the Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery must be individuals whose contribution has had a transforming impact on the practice or science of vascular surgery. Eligibility for the award is open to professionals in the specialty of vascular surgery, vascular medicine or vascular research. This includes vascular surgeons, other medical and surgical professionals, and non-surgeons involved in vascular research or clinical vascular care. Candidate does not need to be a member of the Society. An individual may be nominated on a singular innovation or a body of work. If two or more individuals have contributed to the advance, the award will be made to both individuals.
Women’s Leadership Training Award. Deadline: March 2, 2009. W.L. Gore, Inc. has generously provided the SVS with a grant of $10,000 for leadership training for women vascular surgeons that are under the age of 45 and have been in practice a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 10. Examples of leadership training opportunities include personal leadership coaching, traveling to meet women leaders, or specific training programs. The award will be presented at the Vascular Annual Meeting in June 2009.
International Scholars Program Deadline: March 2, 2009. The International Scholars Program provides scholarships to qualified young vascular surgeons from countries other than the United States or Canada. Three scholarships in the amount of $7,000 each provide the scholars with an opportunity to participate in the Vascular Annual Meeting and to visit clinical, teaching and research activities in North America.
The Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research Annual Wylie Scholar Award. Deadline: March 16, 2009. The Foundation for Accelerated Vascular Research (FAVR) Annual Wylie Scholar Award consists of a 3-year, $150,000 grant given to the most promising vascular surgeon scientists in North America who are dedicated to an academic career involving original, innovative basic laboratory or clinical investigation. FAVR's Wylie Scholar Program is designed to support outstanding surgeons in the initial phase of their academic career, and to provide the financial assistance that will enable their development into academic vascular surgeon-scientists.
Lifeline Student Research Fellowship. Deadline: March 17, 2009. The Lifeline Student Research Fellowship, which was established by the American Vascular Association, stimulates laboratory and clinical vascular research by undergraduate college students and medical school students who are registered at North American Universities. Each award will consist of a $3,000 student stipend and a 2-year complimentary subscription to the Journal of Vascular Surgery. The American Vascular Association will grant a maximum of 10 awards each year.
