First SVS Women's Leadership Retreat

The SVS Women's Issues Committee will present a SVS Women's Leadership Retreat, Strategic Career Building: Strategies for Success when Hard Work and Talent Aren't Enough, April 3 - 5 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Participants will build key career and leadership skills, expand their vision of professional potentials, acquire motivation to set and achieve stretch goals, and expand their network of role models and colleagues.

"This is an exciting opportunity for you to network with other female vascular surgeons, and to enhance your potential for a successful career by developing your leadership skills," said Dr. Cynthia Shortell, Chair of the SVS Women's Issues Committee. The retreat is made possible by a generous grant from Medtronic.

Janet Bickel, George Washington University School of Medicine and member of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Consultation Alliance, will speak at the opening plenary, "Thinking Like the CEO of Your Own Career and Developing a Style that Works." David Young, D.B.A, Boston University School of Management and the Harvard School of Public Health will present "Financial Management." The agenda features workshops on "Constructive Politics," "Speaking for Success," and "Negotiating for the Resources You Need," and a panel discussion on "Advice I Wished Someone Had Given Me 15 Years Ago: Lessons I Learned the Hard Way."
