The SVS Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor that the Society bestows on one of its members. Selection for this honor recognizes an individual's outstanding and sustained contributions both to the profession and to SVS, as well as exemplary professional practice and leadership.
Candidates for the SVS Lifetime Achievement Award should be individuals who have exhibited outstanding leadership within the specialty as outlined below and who possess exceptional personal integrity and highest standards. Specific requirements to be considered in evaluating nominees include the following:
1. Contributions to SVS and other vascular societies
2. Contributions to vascular education
3. Contributions to vascular basic science or clinical research
4. Active and productive clinical surgeon
5. Special contributions to the field
6. Publications
7. Other honors received
8. Extramural activities that further the goals of the SVS and the profession
Any SVS member in good standing may nominate a candidate for the award by submitting a nomination form and supporting documentation. Nominations will be reviewed by the SVS Distinguished Fellows Council, who will determine the award recipient. Although a call for nominations will be made annually, the award may not be awarded each year. More than one award may be made per year. The award will be made during the SVS Vascular Annual Meeting. Candidates for the SVS Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery must be individuals whose contribution has had a transforming impact on the practice or science of vascular surgery.
Eligibility for the award is open to professionals in the specialty of vascular surgery, vascular medicine, or vascular research. This includes vascular surgeons, other medical and surgical professionals, and non-surgeons involved in vascular research or clinical vascular care. Candidate does not need to be a member of the SVS.
An individual may be nominated on a singular innovation or a body of work. If two or more individuals have contributed to the advance, the award will be made to both individuals.
Candidates must be nominated by a member of SVS. No individual may nominate himself or herself for the award.
A completed nomination form along with a CV and description of the innovation are required for consideration.
The SVS Distinguished Fellows Council will review the nominations and serve as the selection committee for the award.
Although a Call for Nominations will be made annually, the award need not be given each year. The award will be presented during the SVS Vascular Annual Meeting. Recipients of the SVS Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery are not excluded from receiving the SVS Lifetime Achievement Award.
