Beginning last fall PBS stations began airing a half-hour program on Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) as part of the Healthy Body, Healthy Mind series. The program features interviews with SVS members, Drs. Jeffrey Carpenter, Carlo Dall'Olmo, Mark Farber and Robert Zwolak, and focuses on the risks, prevention, and treatment of AAA. PBS stations will continue to air the program during 2007. To find out when the program airs in your area visit www.itvisus.com/programs/hbhm/schedule.asp. Medtronic Vascular sponsored the program, and copies are available from Medtronic sales representatives.
A series of broadcasts was aired through Jan. 3, 2007, on the nationally syndicated commercial health newsmagazine show, Medical Breakthroughs. The first segment of the 30-minute program focused on "Stopping Stroke" and demonstrated the importance of ultrasound screening. It also highlighted aortic aneurysms. It featured Drs. Andrew Manganaro, William Pearce, and Robert Zwolak. An abbreviated version of the video can be viewed at http://www.healthcentral.com/high-blood-pressure/llsa/video.html.
SVS recently released two public education columns to newspapers: one announcing the Medicare AAA Screening Benefit and the other on the damaging affects of Peripheral Arterial Disease (seen below). In addition, an audio Public Service Announcement on the AAA Medicare Benefit was released to radio outlets. Watch for these promotions in your community.
