The 2006 Marco Polo Scholarship, an international traveling scholarship program sponsored by the SVS and the European Society for Vascular Surgery, supporting the exchange of vascular surgical trainees between North America and Europe, was recently awarded to Alessandra Puggioni, MD. Dr. Puggioni is a graduate of the University of Rome and the University of Hawaii. She completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
Dr. Puggioni received $40,000 to support travel expenses for six-months of additional training. Institutions she intends to visit include the H. Mondor Hospital, University of Paris, Creteil, France; Saint Joseph Hospital, Marsielle, France; AZ St-Blasius, Dendermonde, Belgium and the University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany.
The SVS is accepting applications for the 2007 Marco Polo Scholarship from vascular surgeons planning to travel next summer. Vascular surgeons in training may apply if they are within two years of completing vascular surgery training or are within one-year following completion of training.
