As part of the recent Annual Business Meeting held during the 2006 Vascular Annual Meeting, the following bylaw changes were approved by the membership:
I. Clarification of Board Membership
(Article V, Section 1)
Specifies that no single individual may serve in more than one position on the Board of Directors.
II. Refinement in Councils
(Article VII)
Overview: Allows the chairs of reporting committees to serve as ex officio members of Councils.
Section 1--Fellows Council
- Specifies that midterm vacancies would be filled by the Fellows Nominating Committee and approved at the next Annual Fellows Meeting.
- Adds responsibility for nominating recipients of Lifetime Achievement Award and Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery.
Section 2--Research Council
- Allows four or more members to be appointed to Council.
- Changes terms to one year, renewable annually up to three years.
- Chair is appointed for one year, renewable annually up to two years. Chair may serve up to a total of five years on the Council.
- Appointments are effective starting at the termination of the Annual Business Meeting.
- Members continue to be nominated by Fellows Council and elected by SVS members at Annual Business Meeting.
Section 3--Education Council
- Allows four or more members to be appointed to Council.
- Changes terms to one year, renewable annually up to three years.
- Chair is appointed for one year, renewable annually up to two years. Chair may serve up to a total of five years on the Council.
- Members will be nominated by a group comprised of the president, the president-elect and the vice president and will be elected by the SVS members at the Annual Business Meeting.
- Appointments are effective starting at the termination of the Annual Business Meeting.
Section 4--Clinical Practice Council
- Allows four or more members to be appointed to Council.
- Changes terms to one year, renewable annually up to three years.
- Chair is appointed for one year, renewable annually up to two years. Chair may serve up to a total of five years on the Council.
- Members will be nominated by a group comprised of the president, president-elect and vice president and elected by SVS members at annual business meeting.
- Appointments are effective starting at the termination of the Annual Business Meeting.
III. Refinement in Committees
(Article VIII)
Section 6--Appointment of members and chairs and filling vacancies on committees
- Except for the Nominating Committee, committee members would be appointed by a group comprised of the president, president-elect and vice president.
- Committee members are appointed for one year, renewable annually up to three years.
- Chairs are appointed for one year, renewable annually for up to two years.
- Appointments are effective from the termination of the Annual Business Meeting.
