American Vascular Association Update

A snapshot of 2005 AVA Screening Program activities, as presented by William Flinn, M.D., AVA vice chair, at the Society for Vascular Surgery Board meeting, follows:

An estimated 8,000-10,000 individuals received free vascular disease screenings at more than 200 centers in 40 states in May, the focus month for screening.

Media coverage of the AVA screening program in 2005 included 60 television citations, 20 magazine articles, and 40 Internet citations, with an estimated publicity value of $1.2 million.

Several other multicenter screenings were sponsored by Cook Inc. and regional vascular societies.

A new Venous Screening Program was developed and launched in 2005, jointly sponsored by AVA and the American Venous Forum.
