Welcome to the news pages of the Society for Vascular Surgery. In each issue, these pages will contain a variety of items of interest to the vascular community from the society.
The Society for Vascular Surgery seeks to advance excellence and innovation in vascular health through education, advocacy, research, and public awareness. Founded in 1947, the organization merged with the American Association for Vascular Surgery in 2003.
The Society currently has a membership of more than 2,200 vascular surgeons. Membership in the Society is widely recognized in the vascular community as a mark of professional achievement.
Our mission has many aspects, from promoting and encouraging knowledge concerning all aspects of vascular disease and health to addressing the social economic, ethical, and legal issues that relate to vascular surgery.
In addition the society works to provide education for vascular surgeons in new science, surgical techniques and practice and to promote clinical and basic research in vascular disease, including the development and implementation of new technologies for diagnosis and treatment. This new publication, VASCULAR SPECIALIST, the official newspaper of the society, and these pages of society news, will be key parts of this larger effort.
A wealth of further information about the society and its programs, as well as information covering a broad spectrum of vascular interests can be found on the SVS Web site at www.VascularWeb.org.
