Active Membership may be granted to surgeons residing in the United States or Canada who have demonstrated knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and management of vascular disorders, by attainment of ONE of the following three criteria:
1. Successful completion of an ACGME-approved or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada-approved vascular surgery training or their equivalent in the United States or Canada; OR
2. Certification in Vascular Surgery from the United States or Canada; OR3. Surgeons whose clinical practice is dedicated primarily to vascular surgery. For criterion #3, the Membership Committee will also take into account the following factors:
- Contributions to vascular surgery education
- Contributions to vascular surgery research
- Membership in the American College of Surgeons
- Participation in regional or local vascular societies
Election to Membership
If the Board of Directors and the Membership Committee approve the application, the name of the applicant for Active Membership will be presented to the Society at a regularly convened Annual Business Meeting of the membership for final action. A majority vote of those members present and voting is required for election to Active Membership.
Any applicant who is not approved by the Membership Committee and/or Board of Directors or is not elected by the membership may reapply. A new application must be submitted, including a new completed application form and two new letters of sponsorship, as described above.
Complete the online application for active membership OR download the active membership application (.doc) and submit with a non-refundable application fee of $100 by March 1. Decisions are made at the Vascular Annual Business Meeting held annually in June. Applicants are notified of the status of their application by July 1.
