The Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 authorized the establishment of a physician quality reporting system by CMS. Titled the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI), it creates a financial incentive of 1.5% for eligible professionals to participate in a voluntary quality reporting program.  Vascular surgeons who report at least 3 quality measures 80% of the time (measures 11 and 20-23) on claims from July 1-December 31, 2007 will earn this bonus on the total allowed charges for covered Medicare physician fee schedule services.
