Goals of the EV-PEEC.

Since endovascular therapies play an increasing role in the treatment of vascular disease, it is imperative that vascular surgeons adapt to this changing landscape by becoming proficient in providing these services to their patients. Unfortunately, many vascular surgeons practicing today completed their fellowships prior to the availability of endovascular training and, lacking these skills, are now at a competitive disadvantage with their radiologists and cardiologists for delivery of these services in their community.

While a variety of endovascular training experiences have become available over the years, they are variable in breadth, depth, length, volume, and degree of participation, complicating the process of selecting a meaningful training program.

Recognizing the need for standardized comprehensive post-graduate endovascular training opportunities to assist vascular surgeons in acquiring the requisite endovascular skill-set, the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) has formulated guidelines for what constitutes a meaningful comprehensive endovascular training experience and established criteria by which training programs offering such supplemental endovascular training can achieve "endorsement" of their training programs.

Further, the EV-PEEC will continue to produce the annual SVS Endovascular Symposium and other endovascular educational programs at the SVS Annual Meeting, Additionally, it is hoped that the endovascular expertise of this group will be viewed as a helpful resource for endovascular training programs, ranging from those just getting started and struggling with a curriculum to those looking for guidance on institutional challenges.
