AVA will build on its relationship with the Society for Vascular Surgery and will expand its public outreach and research programs through increasingly effective fundraising and leveraging resources. By using the merger as an opportunity, AVA will create a new identity, image and messages.

Strategic Goal 1. Research and Professional Development

AVA will expand its current professional development programs in basic and clinical research, and will explore new programs in outcomes research and clinical registries.

AVA Objectives

  • Maintain basic research programs.
  • Expand involvement in clinical research.
  • Continue working to develop young physician scientists.
  • Expand dissemination of research findings to the media, primary care physicians and the general public, in partnership with SVS.
  • Determine current and future needs for vascular surgery registries, in partnership with SVS.
  • Determine the need for outcomes data, identify appropriate programs and define the roles of AVA and SVS in administering those programs.

Strategic Goal 2. Expanded Public Outreach

Through the vascular screening program and other initiatives, AVA will expand its efforts to educate the public about vascular health and the role of the vascular surgeon in the detection, prevention and treatment of vascular disease.

AVA Objectives

  • Double the number of screening programs in the next three years.
  • Substantially increase communications to primary care providers.
  • Substantially increase outreach to the media, general public and other audiences.
  • Strategic Goal 3. AVA Organizational Effectiveness

AVA will build a strong organization so that it communicates, raises funds and operates efficiently.

AVA Objectives

  • Use the opportunity created by the merger to redefine the organization and its distinctive message and niche.
  • Develop and expand the AVA Board of Directors to include additional expertise.
  • Create an Advisory Council to honor leaders in vascular surgery and benefit from their advice.
  • Increase outreach to regional societies and other related professional organizations.

Strategic Goal 4. Increased Fundraising

AVA will substantially increase its fundraising among SVS members, the general public, patients, foundations and industry to achieve two million dollars in new funding in the next three years.

AVA Objectives

  • Clearly articulate to all constituencies AVA’s purpose, priorities and opportunities for support to demonstrate AVA’s important role in and relevance to vascular healthcare.
  • Increase donations to $500,000 annually, which will include support from at least 60 percent of the SVS membership.
  • Increase vascular industry annual support by at least $500,000.
  • Secure additional funding from the National Institutes of Health and the foundation community.
  • Demonstrate excellent stewardship, including accountability of donations and recognition of donors.
