The Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) participates in the processes that are used to determine how vascular procedures are coded in the USA and what relative values are assigned to each code. The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel meets three times annually to process changes in coding that have been initiated by specialty societies, CMS, or the panel itself. Detailed information about the CPT process is located on the American Medical Association (AMA) Web site
The Resource-Based Relative Value Update Committee (RUC) also meets three times annually to assign relative values to codes which have been identified by the specialty society, (US) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), or the RUC itself as being potentially incorrectly valued. RUC’s actions are made as recommendations to CMS, which makes the final determination of relative values, and applies a dollar figure known as the conversion factor to derive the payments for each code. Detailed information about the RUC is located on the AMA Web site
SVS has official member representation on both CPT Editorial Panel and RUC.
