Mission Statement
The purpose of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) is to develop and implement balanced and relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs that enhance physician competence in patient care, physician performance, or patient outcomes in vascular health care. SVS is dedicated and committed to assisting physicians to achieve the highest quality of vascular health care for their patients through continuing professional education.
Content Areas
SVS continually assesses the educational needs of its member and plans applicable programs to address identified professional gaps. Content of CME activities may encompass patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, systems-based practice, and/or research in vascular health care.
Target Audience
Primary Audience
Potential participants are vascular surgeons. These may be local, regional, national, or international participants.
Secondary Audience
Potential participants may include various members of the health care industry with an interest in the science and treatment of vascular disease such as physicians in training, researchers, nurses, administrators, practice managers, and various allied health professionals. These may be local, regional, national, or international participants.
Types of Activities
SVS provides various educational formats from live activities such as meetings, courses, hands-on workshops to journal-based CME to self-assessment learning that is appropriate to the topic contents and audience. SVS also partners with other medical organizations/societies to enhance the educational needs of its learners.
Expected Results
SVS CME program endeavors to offer activities that are designed to change knowledge, competence, or performance of the vascular surgeons. The following activities will be undertaken to track impact within the methodologies and resources available:
- Annually review the CME mission and purpose
- Evaluate each CME activity with participant evaluation tool
- Obtain records of all evaluation reports and provide feedback to presenters
- Conduct a follow up survey of at least one CME live program per year
- Use feedback from evaluations and surveys to continuously track change and implement improvements to CME activities
