Alan M. Dietzek, MD Elected to Distinguished Fellow Status, Society for Vascular Surgery

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO─Alan M. Dietzek, MD, was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) at the 67th Vascular Annual Meeting® on May 30, 2013. At Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Conn., he is the chief of the vascular and endovascular surgery section and is the first to occupy the Linda and Stephen R. Cohen chair in vascular surgery. He is the director of both the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine and the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory. For three years, he has been a clinical associate professor of surgery at the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vt.
Dr. Dietzek graduated from State University of New York in Albany, NY and received his medical degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill. His election was based upon his scholarly research activities, creative professional activities, and broadly recognized teaching excellence.
With a love for teaching and mentorship, Dr. Dietzek feels both are an important part of his career. He has twice been awarded Teacher of the Year by residents in his current program, which includes weekly vascular conferences – the oldest continuous running weekly surgical conference at Danbury Hospital and at his previous hospital, North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.
Dr. Dietzek has published numerous manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters, and given more than 90 lectures and peer review presentations at meetings. Recently, he and one of his residents were awarded a research grant from the New York Vascular Society for his work on endotension. He has participated in six clinical trials and has served as a reviewer for peer reviewed publications and manuscripts, currently including the Journal of Vascular Surgery®. Dr. Dietzek also is on the advisory editorial board for the Journal of the Center for Vascular Awareness.
Dr. Dietzek has been a leader in many national and regional medical societies. He is the president of the Vascular Surgical Society of Southern Connecticut, secretary of the Society of Clinical Vascular Surgery, and president-elect of the vein center division of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. He also is a member of the community practice advisory committee at SVS and on the executive council of the Eastern Vascular Society. Dr. Dietzek has been included in New York Magazine’s “Best Doctors” issue for 12 consecutive years.
