CHICAGO – The Women’s Leadership Committee of the Society for Vascular Surgery® awarded two Women’s Leadership Training Grants to members who are female vascular surgeons under age 50 and who have been in practice between five and 15 years. The $5,000 grants are supported by a grant from W.L. Gore & Associates.
At the Vascular Annual Meeting® in Chicago June 16-18, 2011, the Society for Vascular Surgery presented the awards to:
Audra A. Duncan, MD, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Duncan is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. She is also the Program Director for the Mayo Clinic Vascular Surgery Fellowship and Residency Program.
Robyn A. Macsata, MD, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington, D.C. Dr. Macsata is Chief of Vascular Surgery at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She is also the former Chairperson of the Young Surgeon’s Committee of the Metropolitan Washington, D.C. Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
Award recipients are encouraged to participate in personal leadership coaching, traveling to meet women leaders, or specific training programs such as the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® Program for Women.
To apply for the grant, SVS members must submit a letter of intent and two letters of recommendation. One of the recommendations must be from the chair of the department of the academic appointment.
Upon completion of the grant year, the grantees must submit a report to the SVS Women’s Leadership Committee.
