CHICAGO – The Society for Vascular Surgery® provided funds for four young vascular surgeons from China, Ethiopia, Latvia, and Spain to attend the Vascular Annual Meeting®, June 16-18, 2011 in Chicago.
The award recipients were:
• Dr. Zhihui Dong of the Zhongshan Hospital Fudan University, China
• Dr. Arturs Ligers of the Gailezers University Hospital, Latvia
• Dr. Melina Vega De Ceniga of the Hospital de Galdakao-Usansolo, Spain
• Dr. Abebe Bekele Zerihun of the Addis Adaba University, Ethiopia
The Vascular Annual Meeting is considered the premiere meeting for vascular health professionals from around the world. On June 15, there was a full day of postgraduate courses and the Fifth Annual Meeting of the World Federation of Vascular Societies. From June 16-18, vascular surgeons from around the world shared their medical expertise with their peers.
To qualify for the International Scholar Award, nominees must be between the ages of 35 and 40, must have had at least one year of surgical practice teaching or research, and must submit three letters of recommendations from colleagues.
After attending the Vascular Annual Meeting, the four scholars will visit clinics and universities of their choice in the United States and Canada.
