CHICAGO – The Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) elected Gustavo S. Oderich, MD, as a Distinguished Fellow during their Vascular Annual Meeting® held June 16-18, 2011 in Chicago.
The designation of Distinguished Fellow is bestowed upon an active, international, or senior member of the Society for Vascular Surgery who has made substantial, sustained contributions in two of three categories – research, service, or education. The application process requires three letters of support from SVS Distinguished Fellows.
Dr. Oderich is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He is also a consultant and Director of Endovascular Therapy to the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Mayo Clinic. He is board certified in general and vascular surgery.
Currently, Dr. Oderich is the principal or co-investigator for 42 ongoing research projects. He has participated on the editorial review board of six medical journals as well as serving as an invited reviewer for 18 additional medical journals. He has authored or co-authored 79 peer-reviewed articles, 22 book chapters, five editorials, and 120 abstracts and letters.
Dr. Oderich maintains membership in 13 professional societies. He has made presentations in Portuguese and English at 59 US and non-US meetings of medical professionals. He has accepted 74 speaking invitations around the world and visiting professorships in: Cleveland, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York as well as Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Educated at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul Medical School in Brazil, Dr. Oderich completed his medical internship, residency, and fellowships in Brazil as well as the University of Utah, Mayo Clinic in Minneapolis, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.
