CHICAGO – The Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) elected Paul J. DiMuzio, MD, as a Distinguished Fellow during their Vascular Annual Meeting® held June 16-18, 2011 in Chicago.
The designation of Distinguished Fellow is bestowed upon an active, international, or senior member of the Society for Vascular Surgery who has made substantial, sustained contributions in two of three categories – research, service, or education. The application process requires three letters of support from SVS Distinguished Fellows.
At Philadelphia’s Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Dr. DiMuzio serves as the William M. Measey Professor of Surgery. He is currently the Director of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Program Director of their Fellowship in Vascular Surgery, and Co-Director of the Jefferson Vascular Center. Board certified in both vascular and general surgery, Dr. DiMuzio maintains membership in 14 professional societies and has accepted leadership positions on 15 committees. He is listed as a “Top Doctor” in vascular surgery by Philadelphia Magazine.
Dr. DiMuzio reviews for 13 professional journals and has authored 34 peer-reviewed medical journal articles and five book chapters. His research involves the creation of tissue-engineering bypass grafts made from adult stem cells. He has presented his work at 109 medical meetings and has presented 117 lectures. In addition, Dr. DiMuzio has moderated 24 medical education coutses or sessions and has taught 10 training courses. He is currently participating in three clinical trials at Jefferson.
Educated at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. DiMuzio completed his surgical residency at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He then completed a vascular surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
