CHICAGO – The Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) presented Marlene Grenon, MD, of the University of California San Francisco with one of three Clinical Research Seed Grants during the SVS Vascular Annual Meeting® held June 16-18, 2011 in Chicago.
Dr. Grenon is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco and a staff surgeon at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Her current research project is entitled, Relations Between Dietary Fatty Acids Consumption and Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).
The SVS Clinical Research Seed Grant program encourages the interest and development of clinical investigators among SVS members and provides direct support for pilot clinical projects that have the potential to develop into larger studies fundable by industry or governmental sources.
The one-year $15,000 grant funds direct costs including laboratory assays, imaging studies (as appropriate), data collection, and statistical support. The grant is open to all SVS members.
2011 Clinical Research Seed Grants were also presented to:
• Erica Mitchell, MD, Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. Her current research project is entitled, Assessment of Operative Competence in Vascular Surgery.
• David Stone, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Dr. Stone’s research project is entitled, A Potential Novel Risk Factor for Peripheral Vascular Disease.
