Scope of Work

  • Promote a supportive environment for women vascular surgeons
  • Foster professional development by networking, identifying mentors, and advancing the representation of women in the committees and governance of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS)

2012-2013 Charges

  • Conduct educational and networking activities at the Vascular Annual Meeting®
  • Identify ways to promote SVS female members into SVS and regional leadership positions
  • Develop leadership training initiatives for SVS female members such as leadership awards
  • Collaborate with the Resident and Student Outreach Committee on the recruitment and mentorship of female students and residents into vascular surgery addressing unique needs of practicing female surgeons such as events at regional vascular society meetings
  • Address vascular disease in women through SVS communications venues including Journal of Vascular Surgery®, Vascular Specialist, VascularWeb.org®, Vascular Annual Meeting, etc.
  • Address unique challenges faced in the specialty by female vascular surgeons through SVS communications venues including Journal of Vascular Surgery®, Vascular Specialist, VascularWeb.org®, Vascular Annual Meeting, etc.
  • Collaborate with the regional vascular societies, the Young Surgeons Committee, and the Vascular Surgery Trainee Section to establish mentor program for female vascular surgeons and Candidate members
  • Collaborate with the Diversity and Inclusion Committee to develop regional Diversity Committees /  Work Groups and other relevant activities
  • Collaborate with the Public & Professional Outreach Committee to develop and implement strategy and provide direction to develop resources to educate SVS members, the public, and referring physicians about vascular disease in women
