Scope of Work

  • Develop Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) programs to address minority issues in vascular surgery

2012-2013 Charges

  • Collaborate with the Public and Professional Outreach Committee to develop and implement strategy and provide direction to develop resources to educate SVS members, the public, and referring physicians about vascular disease in minority populations
  • Identify ways to improve minority representation in SVS leadership positions
  • Develop leadership training for minority members
  • Address minority health issues and the challenges faced by minority vascular surgeons through SVS communications venues including Journal of Vascular Surgery®, Vascular Specialist, VascularWeb.org®, Vascular Annual Meeting®, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Resident and Student Outreach Committee on recruitment and mentorship of  minority residents and students into vascular surgery, addressing unique needs of practicing minority surgeons
  • Implement the Minority Medical Student Scholarship Program
  • Collaborate with the Women's Leadership Committee to develop regional Diversity Committees / Work Groups and other relevant activities
