The primary purpose of the SVS Vascular Surgery Trainee Advocacy Travel Scholarship is to provide the recipient with an opportunity to participate in Capitol Hill visits and learn more about SVS' health policy and advocacy activities. The overall aim of the Scholarship is to enhance the health policy and advocacy development of the vascular surgery trainee’s career.​

Financial Support
The SVS Vascular Surgery Trainee Advocacy Travel Scholarship, in the amount of US$1,500, is to be used toward the cost of travel, housing, and subsistence during these visits.

Eligibility for Selection

• Must be SVS Candidate Member currently enrolled (or accepted) in a vascular surgery training program
• Have an earnest interest in health policy and advocacy issues relating to vascular surgery

Application Procedure
Application materials listed below should be submitted via email to the SVS Vascular Surgery Trainee Section Governing Council (email: studentresident@vascularsociety.org). The SVS Health Policy Committee will determine the finalist. Decisions regarding the scholarship will be emailed to applicants.

• Curriculum vitae
• 300 word (maximum) essay describing interest in health policy/advocacy and why the applicant wishes to receive the scholarship

Capitol Hill Visits
SVS will work directly with the recipient to arrange the Capitol Hill visits and other related SVS' health policy and advocacy activities during the experience. Please note: To maximize the recipient's experience, Capitol Hill visits should be planned to occur in mid to late June 2013 or in September 2013.

Trainee’s Report to Committee
A report covering the experience should be prepared and forwarded to the SVS Vascular Surgery Trainee Section Governing Council within three months of completion of the visits. The report should be one to two double-spaced typewritten pages and should summarize activities during the visits. Although factual statements of activities should be included, recipients are encouraged to place these within an overall context of the impact on professional and personal development. Any publication of these activities should acknowledge the SVS Vascular Surgery Trainee Section.
