Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH, Professor Of Surgery, Georgetown And George Washington University Schools Of Medicine, Elected SVS President-Elect

Chicago (July 18, 2008) —

Dr. Anton N. Sidawy was elected 2008-2009 president-elect of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) during the Vascular Annual Meeting on June 6, 2008. Dr. Sidawy is chief of surgical service at the Veterans Affair Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and serves as professor of surgery at both Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine, in Washington, D.C. He is the director of the Vascular Surgery Residency Program at Georgetown University and the Washington Hospital Center.

“Dr. Sidawy’s knowledge, leadership and service of our specialty are outstanding,” said Dr. G. Patrick Clagett, SVS president. “His expertise in health policy issues are invaluable in today’s health care climate. I am proud to serve my presidency with Dr. Sidawy at my side.”

Dr. Sidawy was recently named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and will take the helm at the Journal on January 1. He is on the editorial boards of several journals. Dr. Sidawy is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, multiple book chapters and two text books, The Basic Science of Vascular Disease and Diabetic Foot, Lower Extremity Arterial Disease and Limb Salvage. He also served as associate editor of the Rutherford Textbook of Vascular Surgery.  He currently serves on the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Sidawy has a special interest in health policy issues as they relate to vascular surgery and has served for many years on Health Policy Committee of the SVS. He finished his vascular surgery fellowship at Boston University Hospital and earned a Masters of Public Health in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.
