SVS Launches Lower Extremity Training Program

CHICAGO (June 19, 2008) —

The Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) announced the Lower Extremity Training Program. The mentored, year-long, longitudinal educational program allows for individualized advanced training in endovascular procedures for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease (PVD). It is designed for interventionalists who are credentialed to perform endovascular procedures and have some angiography experience, but minimal lower extremity experience.

Training consists of didactic conferences and hands-on training in advanced interventions to treat PVD at SVS-approved sites. The Lower Extremity Training Program is supported by an educational grant from ev3.

“The SVS is proud to offer this cutting-edge program to provide interventionalists expertise in lower extremity minimally invasive procedures. We appreciate the partnership with ev3 in this endeavor,” said Dr. Sean Lyden, MD, Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

The mission of the Lower Extremity Training Program is to assist qualified vascular surgeons in obtaining training, preceptorships, and mentoring in the performance of aortoiliac and infrainguinal interventions and minimally-invasive approaches to peripheral vascular disease and adapt to new technology. It provides hands-on interventions.

“ev3 is dedicated to developing innovative, breakthrough and clinically proven technologies for the treatment of lower extremity vascular disease and is proud to partner with SVS to offer the Lower Extremity Training Program to endovascular specialists,” commented Robert Palmisano, ev3’s president and chief executive officer.  “By sponsoring this quality continuing education program, we hope to expand the availability of endovascular therapies and to assist physicians to achieve the highest quality of vascular health care for their patients.”
