Heitham T. Hassoun, MD, Assistant Professor Of Surgery, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md.,Presented Award By The American Vascular Association/American College Of Surgeons

chICAGO (July 15, 2008) —

Dr. Heitham T. Hassoun was presented the American Vascular Association and the American College of Surgeons jointly sponsored Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery on June 5, 2008. This award is presented cooperatively with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Hassoun is an assistant professor of surgery in the department of vascular surgery at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. He was chosen for the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) for his proposed research to gain a better understanding of the pathophysiological kidney-lung interactions during kidney ischemia-reperfusion injury, with an emphasis on the pulmonary endothelial response under these conditions. This research will help to identify new and more efficacious targets for therapeutic interventions.

The Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) supports the development of vascular surgery scientists in the early stages of their research career. It provides support for three to five years of supervised study and research.
