| Course Description: |
Endovascular techniques have largely replaced open surgical techniques for the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. However, endovascular treatment may not be appropriate in all cases. An evidence based approach is needed to evaluate this technology and assure proper patient selection. In this rapidly changing environment it is important to stay abreast of new clinical studies, nuances in techniques and understand patient selection in the treatment of vascular disease. Since endovascular techniques are replacing surgery, long-term outcomes must be comparable. When evaluating endovascular procedures, it is essential to compare the same end points, stroke, death myocardial infarction and amputation. In addition, all physicians must demonstrate and maintain clinical competence in this new field. |

| Main Topics: |
This two and one half day course covers the
endovascular treatment of arterial and venous
disease focusing on specific techniques and
outcomes. We begin with the preoperative
assessment of patients undergoing carotid artery
stenting, followed by a step by step description of
the technique. These presentations are followed
by a program on surveillance and contemporary
results and outcomes of carotid endartectomy and
stenting. This format, evaluation, techniques and
outcomes, is followed in each of the sessions,
covering renal and AV access, endovascular
aneurysm repair, thoracic endovascular aneurysm
repair, the treatment of venous disease and the
endovascular treatment of lower extremity arterial
disease. |
