Vascular Surgery Training Programs

ACGME approved new integrated training paradigms that lead to certification in vascular surgery only

The new paradigms shorten the overall duration of training and provide more concentrated time to include
the evolving new techniques within vascular surgery.

  1. The first is a 5-year integrated program of which 3 years are devoted to vascular surgery and 2 years to core surgical training. (see 5-year listing below)
  2. The second is a 6-year program that consists of 3 years vascular surgery training following 3 initial years of preliminary general surgery training in the same institution.

Both of these new programs are selected by fourth-year medical students in the standard matching program.

In addition to these new possibilities, trainees may continue to pursue both general and vascular surgery training in the current sequential programs. Please visit ACGME for a complete listing of General Surgery Residencies and Vascular Surgery Fellowships (5+2 programs and 4+2 programs). Click on "reports" and use the "search by list of programs by specialty" and choose "Surgery" for General Surgery Residencies or choose "Vascular Surgery" for Vascular Surgery Fellowships.

VascularWeb will be updated regularly as new training paradigms are approved.
