Christopher L. Skelly, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, University of Chicago, Presented Award by American Vascular Association
CHICAGO (July 13, 2009) —
Dr. Christopher L. Skelly was presented the American Vascular Association® Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) during the Vascular Annual Meeting® on June 11, 2009. This award is presented cooperatively with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Skelly is an assistant professor of surgery in the vascular surgery department at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He was chosen for the Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) for his proposed research that arterial neointimal hyperplasia, the leading cause of arterial restenosis and failure of angioplasty and stent placement, can be prevented utilizing viral therapy, in particular the genetically engineered herpes simplex-1 virus. This research will to help better understand if neointimal hyperplasia can be successfully treated, leading to increased patency and limb salvage.
The Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Award (K08) supports the development of vascular surgery scientists in the early stages of their research career. It provides support for three to five years of supervised study and research.
