Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH, Professor of Surgery, Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine, Elected SVS Vice President
CHICAGO (June 21, 2007) —
Dr. Anton N. Sidawy was elected 2007-2008 vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) during the Vascular Annual Meeting on June 8, 2007. Dr. Sidawy is chief of surgery at the Veterans Affair Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and serves as professor of surgery at both Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine, in Washington, D.C. In addition, he is the director of the Vascular Surgery Residency Program at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center.
“Dr. Sidawy’s contributions to the vascular surgery specialty are outstanding,” said Dr. K. Wayne Johnston, SVS president. “His expertise in health policy issues is invaluable in today’s health care climate. The Society is honored to have him in the role of vice president.”
He is on the editorial boards of several journals and recently concluded a three-year tenure as associate editor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery. Dr. Sidawy is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, multiple book chapters and two text books, The Basic Science of Vascular Disease and Diabetic Foot, Lower Extremity Arterial Disease and Limb Salvage. He also served as associate editor of the Rutherford Textbook of Vascular Surgery. He currently serves as a Governor of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Sidawy has a special interest in health policy issues as they relate to vascular surgery and has served for many years on Health Policy Committee of the SVS. Dr. Sidawy finished his Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Boston University Hospital and earned a Masters of Public Health in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.
