Peter Gloviczki, MD, Professor of Surgery, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Elected SVS Secretary

CHICAGO (June 25, 2007) —

Dr. Peter Gloviczki was elected secretary of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) during the Vascular Annual Meeting on June 8, 2007. Dr. Gloviczki serves as a professor of surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, Minn. He also is the chair of the division of vascular surgery and the director of the Gonda Vascular Center at the Mayo Clinic.

“Dr. Gloviczki is a well-respected surgeon and educator, both nationally and internationally,” said Dr. K. Wayne Johnston, SVS president. “His extensive academic record and dedicated leadership to the specialty is remarkable. The Society is honored to have him join the executive committee.”

He is past president of the American Venous Forum, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, International Union of Angiology, Vascular Disease Foundation and the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society. Dr. Gloviczki is currently the editor-in-chief of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Perspectives in Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy and associate editor of International Angiology and Angiology. He also serves on the editorial boards of the journals Vascular, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Phlebology and Gefass-Chirurgie, and previously served on the editorial board of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and Annals of Vascular Surgery.

Dr. Gloviczki has an extensive clinical practice that includes all areas of vascular surgery, arterial, venous and lymphatic. He has a special interest in aortic, mesenteric and renovascular surgery, aortic endografts, critical limb ischemia, reconstruction of large veins, endoscopic perforator vein surgery, surgery for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency and lymphatic microsurgery.

Dr. Gloviczki earned his medical degree and completed an internship, residency and fellowship at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. He also completed residencies at Hospital St. Michel and Hospital St. Joseph, both in Paris, France, and at the Mayo Clinic, where he also obtained various fellowships.
