Jean M. Panneton, MD, FRCSC, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Elected to Distinguished Fellows Status, Society for Vascular Surgery

CHICAGO (August 12, 2009) —

Dr. Panneton was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery® (SVS) at the 2009 Vascular Annual Meeting® in June. He is an associate professor of surgery, vascular surgery chief and program director at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va. Dr. Panneton also is on staff at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk. His election was based upon his scholarly research activities, creative professional activities and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

Dr. Panneton has presented 200 abstracts at regional, national and international meetings and given more than 150 invited lectures. He has 89 peer-reviewed articles and is a reviewer for the Annals of Vascular Surgery, Journal of Endovascular Therapy, Journal of Vascular Surgery®, and Vascular. He has been involved in more than 40 industry-sponsored trials and a principal investigator for six. Dr. Panneton has received numerous teaching awards, including the 1999-2000 Excellence in Teaching Recognition Award from the Mayo Medical School and the 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year from the division of vascular surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School. 

In addition to his dedication to the SVS, Dr. Panneton is involved with the American College of Surgeons, Canadian Medical Association, European Society for Vascular Surgery, Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society, and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.
