Life Line Screening Supports American Vascular Association Research Award

CHICAGO (July 13, 2007) —

The American Vascular Association (AVA) announced support of the Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23 Award) by Life Line Screening. Life Line Screening has agreed to fund the K23 Award for a period of three years in the aggregate amount of $150,000.

The K23 Award provides vascular surgeon scientists with supplemental funding to facilitate careers in patient-oriented vascular research. “The AVA appreciates Life Line Screening’s commitment to furthering research on vascular disease and to supporting the work of these young researchers,” said Dr. William Pearce, AVA chair.

The AVA is the philanthropic foundation of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and LLS is the nation’s leading provider of vascular screening. The SVS’ position on screening states, “Individuals 55 years of age or older with cardiovascular risk factors may benefit from preventive screening for vascular disease. Ultrasound screenings have proven to be accurate in detecting vascular disease prior to active warning signs and before a major medical incident such as stroke or sudden death from aneurysm rupture.”
