
CHICAGO (June 20, 2007) —
Dr. Kellie R. Brown was presented the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Women’s Leadership Training Award at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery on June 7, 2007. The SVS Women’s Leadership Training Award, supported by a grant by W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., assists female vascular surgeons to become leaders and mentors in the vascular surgery specialty. It is given to a deserving SVS member who is a practicing female vascular surgeon to attend a leadership training program.
Dr. Brown is an assistant program director of the general surgery residency program at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisc. She also serves as an assistant professor of surgery in the division of vascular surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisc. Dr. Brown plans to further develop her training as an academic surgeon by attending the American College of Surgeons’ Annual Surgeons as Educators Course, the Association of American Medical College’s Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar, shadowing a female chair of surgery at a well-known university, as well as receive personal executive coaching form an organizational and leadership coach who specializes in academician leadership.
“Dr. Brown is a very deserving choice for the inaugural SVS Women’s Leadership Training Award,” said Dr. K. Wayne Johnston, president of the SVS. “Her dedication to furthering her academic skills and to the vascular surgery specialty at large is a perfect example of what this award is all about.”
