CHICAGO (June 19, 2007) —
Dr. Vikram S. Kashyap was presented the American Vascular Association (AVA) Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery on June 7, 2007. This award is presented cooperatively with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Kashyap is an associate professor of surgery in the department of vascular surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He was chosen for the Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) for his research on endothelial function in peripheral arterial disease (PAD) to test a novel clot-dissolving combination that may improve cellular function and outcomes after artery clotting.
“Dr. Kashyap’s research has the potential to lead to targeted therapies to halt or improve endothelial dysfunction and impact patients with PAD, as well as improve the clinical care of patients with critical ischemia,” said Dr. William H. Pearce, chair of the AVA.
The Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award (K23) supports the career development of investigators who focus their research endeavors on patient-oriented research. It provides support for three to five years of supervised study and research.
