Muneera R. Kapadia, MD, Northwestern University Resident, Presented Resident Research Prize by the American Vascular Association

CHICAGO (June 21, 2007) —

Dr. Muneera R. Kapadia was presented the American Vascular Association (AVA) Resident Research Prize at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Society for Vascular Surgery on June 7, 2007. The Resident Research Prize is intended to motivate physicians, early in their training, to pursue their interest in research and offer the opportunity to present their research at the Vascular Annual Meeting.

Dr. Kapadi is enrolled in the general surgery residency program at Northwestern University. She was chosen for the Resident Research Prize for her work in demonstrating that perivascular application of a new nitric oxide-releasing self-assembling nanofiber gel was found to be a simple and effective therapy to prevent neointimal hyperplasia following arterial injury.

“Dr. Kapadia’s research has shown that this nitric oxide-releasing therapy has great clinical potential to prevent neointimal hyperplasia following open vascular and cardiovascular interventions in patients,” said Dr. William H. Pearce, chair of the AVA.

The Resident Research Prize includes a $5,000 award and the opportunity to present the winner’s work at the Vascular Annual Meeting and have it published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
