Nancy L. Harthun, MD, University of Virginia, Elected to Distinguished Fellows Status, Society for Vascular Surgery
CHICAGO (July 02, 2007) —
Dr. Nancy L. Harthun was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) at the 61st Vascular Annual Meeting on June 7, 2007. She is an associate professor of surgery and medical director of the vascular laboratory at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. She has hospital appointments at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., the Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, Va., and the Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs, Va. Dr. Harthun’s election was based upon her scholarly research activities, creative professional activities and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

Dr. Harthun is the recipient of the S. Timothy String Traveling Fellowship (2001) from the Southern Association of Vascular Surgery, the Visiting Professorship Award (2005) by the Association of Women Surgeons and the Clinical Excellence Award (2005) by the University of Virginia. Additionally, Dr. Harthun is the Principal Investigator of the PIVOTAL Trial (2005-2010). She also is the author of 30 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters and has given numerous presentations at regional and national meetings.
In addition to her dedication to the SVS, Dr. Harthun is involved with the American College of Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons, Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, Southern Association of Vascular Surgery, Society for Vascular Ultrasound and the Virginia Vascular Society.
