Mark A. Farber, MD, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Elected to Distinguished Fellows Status, Society for Vascular Surgery

CHICAGO (July 02, 2007) —

Dr. Mark A. Farber was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) at the 61st Vascular Annual Meeting on June 7, 2007. He is an associate professor in the division of vascular surgery at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C. He also is an adjuvant professor in the department of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C. Dr. Farber’s election was based upon his scholarly research activities, creative professional activities and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

“We are proud to include Dr. Farber as a distinguished fellow in the Society for Vascular Surgery,” said K. Wayne Johnston, MD, SVS president. “He exemplifies the qualities and commitment to excellence our membership subscribes to in vascular health care.”

In 2000 Dr. Farber received the Teacher of the Year award from the University of North Carolina Medical School’s general surgery residents. He is the National Principle Investigator for the Phase II Bolton Relay Thoracic Stent Graft Trial and is currently working with engineers at North Carolina State University on a computer modeling program to better understand the geometric stresses placed upon aortic endografts. Dr. Farber has published over 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts and four book chapters, as well as given numerous presentations at regional and national meetings.

In addition to his dedication to the SVS, Dr. Farber is involved with the American College of Surgeons, Carolina Vascular Society, Nathan A. Womack Surgical Society, Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, Southern Association for Vascular Surgery and the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery.
