
CHICAGO (June 08, 2006) —
Dr. G. Patrick Clagett was elected 2006-2007 vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) during the Vascular Annual Meeting on June 2, 2006. Dr. Clagett serves as chairman, Division of Vascular Surgery, head, Section of Vascular Surgery, and professor with the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In addition, he is a professor, Department of Surgery, at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. In 2002 Dr. Clagett was named one of the best doctors in Dallas by D-Magazine.
"Dr. Clagett is a dedicated surgeon who has served Dallas and the vascular field in numerous roles," said Dr. K. Craig Kent, SVS president. "The SVS is dedicated to advancing excellence and innovation in vascular surgery, and Dr. Clagett’s work has proven his pursuit of the same goals in his professional career. We are fortunate to have someone of this caliber stepping forward to lead our members."He is on the editorial boards of Clinical Series in Vascular Surgery, The Journal of Vascular Surgery, Stroke, Vascular Surgery Outlook, Perspectives in Vascular Surgery, Vascular, Vascular Forum, Surgery, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, The American Journal of Surgery, and Journal of the American College of Surgeons (associate editor). He served as president of the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery during 1997. He is a director of the American Board of Surgery and is first chairman of its Vascular Surgery Sub-board. He sits on the American College of Surgeons Advisory Council for Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Clagett’s research interests include surgical management of cerebrovascular disease, blood biomaterial interactions, the clinical utility of new anti-thrombotic agents, and vascular prosthetic infections. He earned his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Virginia; finished his general surgery residency at the University of Michigan; served as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School; and completed a vascular fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center
