PHILADELPHIA (June 01, 2006) —
Dr. Juan Carlos Parodi was presented the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) Medal for Innovation in Vascular Surgery at the 60th Vascular Annual Meeting on June 1, 2006. Recipients of the medal are those whose contributions transform the practice or science of vascular surgery.
Dr. Parodi described the first aortic endografting in 1990, a technique that revolutionized the treatment of infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms. In addition to this accomplishment, he invented the Parodi Anti-embolic System for the safe treatment of extra-cranial carotid artery disease with carotid stenting. He recently joined the faculty of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine as professor of surgery and director of endovascular surgery in the DeWitt Daughtry Family Department of Surgery and at the Jackson Memorial Hospital. “Dr. Parodi’s innovative mind has expanded endoluminal technologies creating a broad and exciting field for vascular surgeons,” said Dr. Craig Kent, SVS president. Dr. Parodi has served as an educator in Argentina and the United States. His accomplishments include co-authoring Endovascular Grafting Techniques, more than 300 presentations and lectures, and the publishing of more than 50 articles.
