
PHILADELPHIA (June 01, 2006) —
Dr. Gregory J. Modrall was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) at the 60th Vascular Annual Meeting on June 1, 2006. He holds several positions in Dallas including: chief, Section of Vascular Surgery, Veterans Administration Medical Center; chief, Clinical Vascular Laboratory Veterans Administration Medical Center; staff surgeon, Dallas Veterans Administration Medical Center, Zale-Lipshy University Hospital, St. Paul University Hospital of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and Parkland Memorial Hospital. His election was based upon his scholarly research activities, creative professional activities, and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

Dr. Modrall has excelled in the area of bench and clinical investigation making contributions to unraveling mechanisms of renovascular hypertension and the contributory role of the intrarenal renal rennin and angiotensin system. In 2002 he received the Medical Student Teaching Award in the Department of Surgery and in 2005 received the Socrates Award for Outstanding Educator. His list of 48 peer-reviewed publications includes five clinical papers and 11 basic science papers in which he served as first or senior author.
In addition to his dedication to the SVS, Dr. Modrall is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is active with the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery, Society of University Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgeons, and the American Heart Association Council for High Blood Pressure Research.
