Dr. Thomas L. Forbes was elected to distinguished fellow status of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) at the 60th Vascular Annual Meeting on June 1, 2006. He is the chair and chief of vascular surgery at the London Health Sciences Centre, University of Western Ontario. His election was based upon his scholarly research activities, creative professional activities, and broadly recognized teaching excellence.

“We are proud to include Dr. Forbes as a distinguished fellow in the Society for Vascular Surgery,” said Craig Kent, MD, SVS president. “He exemplifies the qualities and commitment to excellence our membership subscribes to in vascular health care.”

Dr. Forbes contributes regularly to national and international literature, and has been published in a broad range of areas including education and clinical research. He has long been recognized as one of the best teachers receiving six teaching awards. Dr. Forbes is at the forefront of the introduction of endovascular technologies to the teaching hospital at The University of Western Ontario, and  performed basic science at the University of Western Ontario. Among his accomplishments is the introduction of a technique of cumulative sum failure analysis to vascular surgery procedures.

In addition to his dedication to the SVS, Dr. Forbes is involved with the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, Association of Chairs in Vascular Surgery, Canadian Society for Vascular Surgery, International Society for Vascular Surgery, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the Trauma Association of Canada
