Vascular Surgery Simulation Summit at 2013 APDVS Spring Meeting

APDVS is pleased to announce that the Vascular Surgery Simulation Summit (VS3) will be held in conjunction with the 2013 APDVS Spring Meeting, held March 22-23, 2013 at the Hotel Intercontinental Chicago O'Hare in Rosemont, IL.

The APDVS Education Committee has developed VS3 to provide a national forum for presentation (and publication) of vascular surgical skills and endovascular simulation training research data and experiences.

The purpose of the VS3 program is to specifically address simulation training for all vascular surgery trainees in the U.S. VS3 will provide program directors the opportunity to discuss the status of simulation training in vascular surgery and plans for future development in this area of residency training. APDVS has invited several national and international leaders in simulation training to speak at this event.

To make the most of your time away from the office, APDVS has planned the VS3 program to complement the existing APDVS Spring Meeting/Annual Business Meeting. Please note VS3 will occur on Friday, March 22 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm and the APDVS Spring Meeting/Annual Business Meeting will be held Saturday, March 23, 2012 from 8:00 am – Noon.

Program directors are encouraged to take advantage of attending as much of the VS3 content as they can, as well as allowing interested vascular surgery trainees to attend the Summit. Please note the VS3 program is complimentary for all program directors, surgical educators, trainees, and coordinators interested in simulation. Registration for the APDVS Spring Meeting/VS3 will open in November.

The Vascular Specialist, the Society for Vascular Surgery newspaper, publishes articles about our specialty with expert commentary on a monthly basis. On alternating months we publish on-line and in print form. Our goal is to survey the broad field of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery from meetings and publications and report what is important, new, and controversial. We pursue a balanced approach with a writing style that is precise and lively. We encourage the expression of individual opinion.

Just as our audience and our reporting broadly encompasses vascular surgery and medicine we believe that our writers should come from these areas of general interest. As a result we propose a new monthly column written by and focused on the interests of Vascular Fellows and Residents. The tentative title is “The Residents’ Forum.” This is an opportunity for current Vascular Fellows or Residents to write 700 to 800 words about whatever is on their minds and to share it with your colleagues and the entire vascular community.

Selection will be based upon the interest of the topic, which is left entirely to the author’s discretion, the thoughtfulness of the message, and the writing skills on display. Personal essays are welcome and encouraged.

There is no need to run it past your program director unless you want to. Go ahead and give it a try. There will be nothing else like this on your Curriculum Vita. Let the nascent English Major inside you come out! Your article will be published next to our usual editorial content together with expert perspective from our editorial board, Vieth’s Viewpoint, the Editor’s Diary, occasional invited articles and all the news from the SVS.

We look forward to hearing from you.
