Interactive Luncheon Session

This session will explore the vascular trainees’ feedback from the APDVS Annual Vascular Surgery Trainee Survey that tracks opinions on issues of common concern. Topics include various training aspects such as: avenues for educational enhancement; volume and types of cases; duty hours; continuity of care; and areas of perceived deficiencies or needed improvement such as knowledge of coding, business aspects of vascular surgery, etc. Other topics of interest will be covered as determined by survey responses and new areas of educational opportunities the APDVS is exploring. The interactive portion of the session with Fellows is of paramount interest. 

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the role of APDVS in vascular surgery training
  • Discuss the impact of proposed changes in resident duty hours
  • Determine unmet needs in training programs that can be addressed by the Program Directors in Vascular Surgery
  • (Other areas of interest will be covered based on trainees’ feedback )     
  • Understand the business aspects of practice (coding, billing services, capital investment, etc.)

The Transition to Practice
Interactive Luncheon Session

This session will explore what vascular trainees need to know as they prepare to enter the field of vascular surgery practice. Topics to be covered include: 

  • Conducting a job search
  • Selecting the right practice model
  • Negotiating contracts
  • Practice management

Upon completion, participants should be able to:

  • Identify best practices for job interviews and negotiating contracts
  • Name ways to enhance professional career development
  • Assess the pros and cons of private and academic practices
  •
