Women's Leadership Training Grant

Deadline: March 31, 2010

The Women's Leadership Committee periodically awards a women's leadership training grant for women vascular surgeons age 50 and under who have been in practice a minimum of five years and a maximum of 15. The grant is presented at the Vascular Annual Meeting.

Financial Support

The Women’s Leadership Training Grant is supported by a grant from W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.

Examples of leadership training opportunities include personal leadership coaching, traveling to meet women leaders, or specific training programs such as:

  • The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) Program for Women. Click here for details.

  • The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) offers programs in professional development for women early in their career and mid-career faculty. Click here for details.
  • Leadership programs targeted for leaders in medicine, higher education and health care found on the AAMC Web site.

Selection Criteria

  1. Be age 50 or under at the time of the award.
  2. Have been in practice a minimum of five years and a maximum of 15.
  3. SVS membership.

Application Procedure

  1. Applicants must submit a completed application form.
  2. Please note the application is two pages and is a fill-in form. You can either save it to your computer and print out the form and send it in with your complete application or you can submit the form electronically and it will be emailed directly to the SVS office. If you prefer, the application form also is available as a word document.
  3. Letter of intent (two pages or less) that indicates how you would use this award to advance your personal leadership training and what your specific career goals are.
  4. Curriculum vitae must be provided.
  5. Applicants must submit three complete publications (reprints or manuscripts).
  6. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from the chair of the department in which they hold academic appointment, and one from a colleague.
  7. All applications and related materials are due March 31, 2010

Recipient’s Report to Committee

A report covering your experience should be prepared and forwarded to the Women’s Leadership Committee within three months of completion of your training grant. This report should be one to two double-spaced typewritten pages and should summarize your activities during the leadership training period. Although factual statements of activities should be included, you are encouraged to place these within an overall context of their impact on your professional and personal development. Any publication of the leadership training activities should acknowledge W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. and the SVS Women’s Leadership Committee.
